Classics in the Park

Always a favorite car show, the Road Kings at Johnny Carson Park in Burbank did not disappoint. This classic car show sits on the lawn with a rolling hillside on the upper level and a park setting on the lower level of the event, with a natural wildlife setting in between. The divide between the two groups almost feels like two separate car shows.

EV Technology

This year on the upper level, was a new kind of classic. EV Technology came to the park with Current. A California firm that specializes in converting classics into electric vehicles. The 1957 Chevy Bel Air body was off the charts. More about this Southern California custom classics car developer at www.current-la.com and find a few of their classic cars in the Gallery/Road Kings.

The Road Kings is one of the oldest car clubs, and the pleasure of attending the show was way too much fun—a big thank you to everyone who stopped by to see the Ranchero and the Blue Q.

To the Road Kings, it was a great day for the classics.

Check out the car show and enjoy the rides.

2022 Road Kings Classic Car Show

Johnny Carson Park in Burbank, California, was the perfect location for the car show. This sweet little hidden gem has a two-level open lawn space, creating a picture-perfect atmosphere for a car show.

The Road Kings

Car Club

one of the oldest in the United States, there is history at this car show.

This is one of our favorite car shows, and we love taking
The Ranchero and the Blue Q out for a day of fun.

The two-level venue is divided by a wildlife riverbed with a rolling lawn landscape on the upper level with large shade trees covering the park. The lower level had the main stage, music, car show vendors, and all the Road Kings car show activities.

Getting to the car show early in the morning is essential when part of the show is taking photographs for the website. The sun is kinder to the ride in the morning, but the morning ritual of cleaning the car for hours can block the camera from getting the photograph.
So the search begins; the happy hour of walking through the car shows in search of the camera shot before the crowd arrives.

This year's show was a full house; with some amazing rides and classic car details.
It was a lot of fun, and seeing the So Cal Falcons and other recognizable faces after two years was nice. Thanks to all who stopped by for a look at the Ranchero and enjoyed a few hot dogs on the Blue Q.

A special thanks to the Road Kings!

Enjoy the show.

The Road Kings, King of the Car Shows

The Road Kings Car Club

This years show June 14, 2020 has been canceled.

The Road Kings Car Club started in 1952. We started attending, then showing the Ranchero around 2011, a few years later we added the Q for the optimum classic car set-up. To say this is the friendliest bunch of car enthusiast is an understatement. Tomorrow their scheduled Burbank car show at Johnny Carson Park was canceled.

The Ranchero and the Blue Q

We usually get there early, like the first car, park up on the hillside, bring some donuts, and set up The Ranchero and the Blue Q for our afternoon barbecue. This car show is on the lawn, so the day is easy. The Road Kings has a fantastic collection of roadsters and classic hot rods.  There is a wealth of other classic cars that attend the show from Kustom to Cadillacs, Lowriders, and of course, the So Cal Falcon Car Club, where the elusive Falcons and Rancheros line the hillside. The show has a raffle, music, vendors, and people attending the show come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, some even bring their dogs. In the afternoon, we open up the Q offer anyone willing a hot dog or a burger, and all is good with the world, for at least a few hours anyway. One year we even got the Fireman’s choice award; of course, we were the only classic with a matching barbecue.
So catch up on a great car show, The Road Kings at Johnny Carson Park, and enjoy the rides.

A few favorites from the years attending the show.

The Road Kings at Johnny Carson Park June 9, 2019

The Road Kings go to the park.

Johnny Carson Park was re-developed a few years back if you look at our archives from previous shows the classics are visible from both levels. Now the riverbed has filled up with trees and brush, so the classic car show featuring the Road Kings has split in two. The lower half of The Road Kings at Johnny Carson Park is in the GALLERY, look for the upper-level tomorrow. Catch a car show and enjoy the ride!

Good time at Johnny Carson Par with the Road Kings

The Road Kings went to the park

The perfect car show.
The Road Kings know how to put on a show. We got there early to capture the perfect spot under the tress up on the top. In a way, it is almost a story of two car shows with the division of the park split by a riverbed full of overgrown bushes and trees. Cars, parked on a rolling landscape of lawn is always the perfect way to showcase a car show filled with off-the-chart rides. We cooked dogs, meet a lot of amazing car enthusiast, and the Ranchero and the Q never looked better. Thanks, Road Kings for a great car show and to everyone who stopped by, had a hot dog along with great conversation, it was a blast. Look for photos of the show this week. Loving a car show

The classic car show

The classic car show adventure started with our daily driver. The art of getting up early, taking to the road, meeting up with other automotive enthusiast, our engines revved-up, waiting for a turn to move into the allotted space, the neighborhood park or empty parking lot. We pull out our soft white cloths, fine bristle brushes, special cleaners to begin the process of getting the car ready for the car show. Like a dance, the classics shine in the morning sunlight, waiting for the retrospective to begin.

Shooting Digital: The Car Show

The Car Show Reflection

When we first started shooting car shows it was for fun, still is but now that we post the photos on the site going for the best shot is all about timing and the position of the car.

The Road Kings at Johnny Carson Park, early morning, classics parked on the lawn, perfect opportunity to photo the other rides at the show before the crowd arrives. The Ranchero and the Blue Q sitting on the hill top ready for the days activities.

Two different time frames of this Ford Pick Up were taken.

Once early in the AM when the cars were pulling in and once again during the day.

The early shot was perfect. No surrounding vehicles with a great backdrop.

Later in the day the second shot was taken, the venue had filled up and the reflection from the car parked beside the Ford took over the paint.

Shooting car shows are fun, the people the rides the conversations. Getting to a car show early can make all the difference, when the focus is on the ride.
